When are SARS returns and payments due?
A company's SARS year runs on interlocking cycles. Payroll turns monthly on the EMP201, due by the 7th. VAT turns monthly or two-monthly by category, due at the month end after each period. Provisional tax turns on the financial year, six months in and again at year end, with the voluntary top-up closing the gap before interest starts. The reconciliations and the ITR14 then square the year off. Each cycle is simple on its own; the risk lives in their overlap, where one busy week carries three different deadlines, and in the weekend adjustment, which always moves a date earlier.
Rates verified against SARS on 27 September 2026, for the 2027 year of assessment. Dates are computed from the statutory rules and the gazetted public holidays. A once-off proclaimed holiday, or a SARS extension notice, moves the real deadline and will not show here, so treat the export as the baseline diary and let SARS correspondence override it.
SARS deadline questions
- When are SARS payments due each month?
- The EMP201 for PAYE, UIF and SDL is due by the 7th of the next month, so September 2026 payroll is due by Wednesday 7 October 2026. A two-monthly VAT201 filed on eFiling is due by the last business day of the month after the period, so the period ending September 2026 is due by Friday 30 October 2026. Provisional tax follows the financial year: the first period six months in, the second at year end.
- What happens when a deadline falls on a weekend or public holiday?
- SARS treats the last business day before it as the deadline, so the date moves earlier, never later. That is the adjustment this calendar applies to every date it shows, and it is the detail that catches teams who diarise the published day without checking the weekday.
- Which dates does this calendar cover?
- IRP6 first and second periods and the voluntary top-up, the ITR14 company return, VAT201 submissions for categories A, B and C, monthly EMP201s, and both EMP501 reconciliation windows, generated for the registrations you select over the next 12 months. Personal ITR12 filing seasons, dividends tax, and once-off proclaimed public holidays sit outside it.
- Does this calendar store anything I type in?
- No. Every date is worked out in your browser and the calendar file downloads straight from it, so the details you enter stay on your own device. There is no sign-up and no email field. Anonymised analytics and an anonymised session replay do run across the site so we can see which pages confuse people, and one click in the footer switches both off.
The provisional amounts behind the IRP6 dates come from our provisional tax calculator. Our company tax compliance calendar guide walks the full year in prose, and C-Suite Commercial keeps this calendar running across every company client a practice looks after.
One diary exported, or every client's year watched
This page builds the diary for one business. A practice's client book multiplies it into hundreds of dates a month across mixed year ends and VAT categories, and C-Suite watches that whole spread inside a free one-week pilot on your own clients, so the deadline that slips is the one that gets caught early.
